Alessandro Sinopoli received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Università degli Studi di Messina, Messina (Italy). In 2011, he started his Ph.D. at the University of Huddersfield, Huddersfield (UK), where his research was focused on the design and synthesis of transition metal complexes (in particular Ir, Ru, Re), their photophysical/photochemical investigation and their potential application in solar cells and light emitting devices. He joined the Qatar Energy & Environment Research Institute (QEERI) at the beginning of 2017 as a post-doc, working on organometallic complexes for CO2 electroreduction. In 2019, he became a scientist working as a project leader for the Carbon Capture and Utilization project, as part of the Catalysis and Process Technology Program.

Alessandro has significant experience in molecular design and synthesis under anaerobic conditions, including Schlenk techniques. He has extensive experience of multi-nuclear NMR spectroscopy, IR and UV-vis NIR spectroscopy, TCSPC luminescence spectroscopy, electrochemistry and spectro-electrochemistry, as well as an understanding of crystallography, computational chemistry and mass spectrometry and his current research activity is focused on the development of novel systems for CO2 mineralization, design and synthesis of novel Re and Mn based catalysts for CO2 electroreduction, and investigation of functionalised MXene materials for CO2 conversion applications. Over the last three years, he has been responsible for the preparation and commissioning of three research laboratories and he is currently the focal point of Chemical Synthesis Laboratory and Applied Chemistry Laboratory.
